Pakistan Says Not Prepared to Take Part in Any Muslims-Dividing Conflict

Pakistan announced it was not ready to participate in any conflict that would divide the Muslim world on sectarian lines

Pakistan announced it was ready to defend Saudi Arabia's "territorial integrity" but not to escalate any conflict, the defense minister said Friday, after Riyadh asked Islamabad to join the coalition of countries launching an aggression against Yemen.Pakistan

Khawaja Asif told parliament Pakistan was not prepared to take part in any conflict that would divide the Muslim world on sectarian lines. "We don't want to be part of any proliferation, we will try to contain it," he said.

Asif said Pakistan's "only pledge is for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia". "God forbid, if there is any threat to the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan will defend it at any cost," he told lawmakers.

Saudi Arabia along with other Gulf and Arab states have been since Wednesday night waging a military attack on Yemen, in a bid to protect the government of the fugitive President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who fled the country to Oman earlier on Thursday.

The declaration of the assault came from Washington by the Saudi ambassador to US Adel al-Jubeir.
